How gas work actually goes

Gas service work is tightly controlled and that is a good thing. The utility has requirements for depth, material, marking and inspection, and licensed trades handle the connections.

Our part is the ground. Trenching to the required depth and route, correct bedding, tracer tape so the next person to dig knows what is down there, and restoration afterward. We work to the utility's spec, not around it.

How we do it

Every job runs the same sequence. If something changes it, you hear about it the day we find it.

  1. Confirm the route with the utility

Depth, material and route are set by their requirements, not by convenience.

  2. Locates before digging

Every time, without exception. This is a live gas line.

  3. Trench and bed

To required depth, bedded so nothing bears on the pipe, with tracer tape above the run.

  4. Licensed connection and inspection

Made and inspected by those licensed to do it.

  5. Backfill and restore

    Compacted, topsoil, seed, paving restored.

What it costs

What moves the number

Priced by run length, depth, and restoration.

WorkWhat changes the price
Gas service line, standard residential runLength, depth, and utility requirements
Run to a detached garage or outbuildingDistance and access
Excavation for meter relocationDepth and restoration

Utility requirements and inspection scheduling drive the timeline here more than the digging does.

We price off a site visit, not off a photograph, so you will not find a number on this page. You will get a written scope with a fixed price in it, and it will say what is included and what is not before you are asked for anything.

Questions

Before you call anyone

Do you connect the gas yourself?

No. Connections are made by licensed trades and inspected. We do the excavation and trench work to the utility's specification.

How deep does a gas line go?

Set by the utility and local code. We work to their spec rather than a rule of thumb.

Can you run gas to a fire pit or outdoor kitchen?

We can do the excavation and trenching for it. The connection is made by the licensed trade.
